Anysia Andrisoaia, (INTERN, BEEDIE INDUSTRIAL MARKETING) — At Beedie, we believe in supporting the next generation of industry leaders entering the real estate and construction industries. Over the past 10 years, we’ve hosted over 40 talented students during our summer internship program, growing their skills and industry knowledge while gaining valuable first-hand experience.

This summer, our passionate interns have been working across the company, between our head office in Burnaby and our Downtown Vancouver office. With placements within our Land Development, Marketing, Property Management, Finance, and Residential teams, they have been learning from a highly experienced team that has grown to become one of Canada’s largest developers and property managers.

We recently spoke with each of our interns to learn more about their experiences, to both celebrate National Intern Day with them, and share their experiences with other young professionals looking to enter the industry.

“It has been really enlightening with respect to the intricacies, strategies, and relationships that go into a development.”

Carson, a 4th-year student at Queen’s University, shared that working at Beedie has given him the opportunity “to focus on an upcoming residential project in Burnaby. It has been really enlightening with respect to the intricacies, strategies, and relationships that go into a development.” While working on a number of different projects currently in development, Carson found that his experience as a Development Coordinator for the new Burnaby project has been a highlight of his internship: one that has piqued his interest in a future career path. Interning with our Beedie Living team, Carson has begun to gather inside knowledge about residential and mixed-use communities like The Heights on Austin and Slate, seeing firsthand what it takes to bring each new Beedie development to life.

In the Burnaby office, Maia — an intern with our Land Development team — has been working on a detailed civil design report for Port Kells West, our latest industrial strata development in Port Kells. She revealed that her involvement has been “an excellent opportunity to learn more about the design process from a civil engineering lens.”

Jasmine and Megan have had the chance to work on their design skills, while learning about the best marketing approaches for appealing to target markets. Both have helped in creating marketing content in the field, with Jasmine mentioning how exciting it is to “go to Beedie Construction sites to film projects,” while Megan appreciates the “level of autonomy [she is] given to explore new ideas.” In Industrial Marketing, Anysia is developing a variety of fundamental skills as she supports the collateral creation and campaign launches for a number of state-of-the-art industrial projects across Canada. In addition, she has provided valuable support in updating our CRM and employee database as well as planning a ground-breaking event for a new 2.5 million SF industrial park coming soon to Delta, all with the support of a team that makes each day memorable.

With our Beedie Capital Team, Kristin is using tools like CapIq to learn more about the mining and technology space, while “being part of a lean team [that allows her] to gain exposure to two industries, be involved in multiple deals, and attend external meetings.” Over the last few weeks, she has been working on a live mining investment deal with a team of four, giving her the opportunity to “[see] how her contributions fit in with the broader goals [of the company].”

A unique part of the Beedie internship process is their exposure to different departments, giving each student an understanding of how each contributes to both specific projects within our pipeline and the company as a whole. Our Beedie team is open to sharing their knowledge, allowing new members to explore new paths and build a career they find fulfilling. If there is one thing our interns agreed upon, it is this: the internship experience at Beedie has been “productive, rewarding, and everything in between.”

We look forward to seeing how each of our 2023 Summer Interns make their mark, and cannot wait to see how they go on to shape the industry for the better.
