The Editors, (BCBUSINESS) — People often give for selfless reasons, but they still deserve our thanks. In that spirit, Together We Can Addiction Recovery & Education Society has announced the winners of its inaugural Together We Can Canadian Champion Awards. The 13 honourees range from real estate developer Ryan Beedie and Vancity chief executive Tamara Vrooman to Peter Legge, chair and CEO of BCBusiness publisher Canada Wide Media.
Launched in 1993, Vancouver-based Together We Can is Canada’s largest addiction treatment organization. The society, which has facilities in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, aims to support and educate men and their families battling alcohol and drug dependency. At any given time, 310 men participate in its 60- to 90-day recovery programs.
According to Together We Can, the Canadian Champion winners exemplify its philosophy of going above and beyond to help others and have made exceptional contributions to the community.
“As an organization with over 25 years in the industry, we are all too aware of the vital role private citizens and companies play in advancing health-care outcomes,” Stacy Wilson, executive director of Together We Can, said in a statement. “Often no one hears about the successes, but these honourees have all gone above and beyond to ensure that infrastructure gets built, causes are funded and no one gets left behind. Together We Can owes a debt of gratitude for the generosity and forward thinking consistently displayed by everyone on this list, and as such has decided to recognize them.”
The winners, listed below, will be honoured on November 9, during Together We Can’s annual fundraising gala.
