Sandor Gyarmati, (DELTA OPTIMIST) — Significant progress in South Delta has been achieved along Highway 99 and the surrounding area to support the new Parkwood Industrial Estates master-planned business park.

That’s according to a recent update from Beedie, noting that together with the teams at Norland Limited and Binnie, the municipal side of the project is now over 90 per cent complete, with all the municipal services in the ground to support the 135-acre business park.

Finishing touches are now underway, including the top lift of asphalt, street lighting and landscaping for 88th Street and Pineland Drive.

The new roundabout connecting Highway 99 southbound, Ladner Trunk Road and 80th Street is fully operational, with a new on-ramp to Highway 99 at 80th Street now under construction.

Meanwhile, an overpass at 78th Street is also starting to take shape, with all the abutment piles and the center pile now in place. When complete, the overpass will feature four spans with three girders per span.

The Parkwood Industrial Estates development on 88th Street, south of Burns Bog, will include a number of roadway improvements including the two-way overpass connecting Ladner Trunk Road to a new connector road. Beedie is targeting full completion by Spring 2027.

The works also include the relocation of Burns Drive to enable direct and continuing parallel traffic to Highway 99 for farm and service vehicles, as well as new traffic circles with on-ramps and off-ramps to increase safety, traffic flow and access to Highway 99.

The site of the new industrial park was owned by Pineland Peat Farms Ltd. from 1970 to 2018.

More than a decade ago, the company applied to develop the property into a master-planned industrial business park with environmental and agricultural buffers.

In 2018, it partnered with Beedie.

After receiving a lengthy list of approvals, the application was finally considered and adopted by council in August of 2018.

A subdivision application was submitted in 2024 to create the first two lots in the industrial park at the southwest corner of the site and to extend a road further to the east.
